  • Please find enclosed an informal overview of a 2-person practice [based upon a selected template from Ryushan kata 龍三/山型 ... ] unique to Koryu Uchinadi, delivered at my Italian seminar in Cesena, hosted by Shibucho, Renshi Marco Forti.
Goju/Shito Ryu stylists will see similarities to Tenshou kata/転掌型, which is believed to been extracted, from this older routine [i.e. Ryushan].

you better believe this works. I attended a seminar with him almost 15 years ago and got to practice this first hand.
McCarthy Shihan has lost a lot of weight since then and somehow seems friendlier. back then it was like being in the presence of a grizzly bear who would sometimes "correct" his students when they went out of line.
unfortunately this never caught on where I lived and traveling for 5 hours or more one way is just too much. tried to get get people interested but I guess a lot of karatekas just like doing the same old thing over and over again.
moved on to boxing and muay thai which was a bit of a switch after 20 years of karate but fun to do.

    Excellent content, as always ❤️
I don't personally like long drills like this but they are VERY very useful to develop a framework of interpretation and reactivity/sensibility on the limbs so they're a great addition to the tool.
McCarthy sensei is always a pleasure to watch not only for his wealth of knowledge but also for his excellent body mechanics ❤️

Agreed ... most of ours are actually extremely brief encounters and "act of violence" related ... others, are simply meant to serve as encyclopedic like practices culminating the many lessons learned. This particular one is much more of a sensitivity practice for staying, "connected."

My first and foremost opinion is these drills are excellent learning tools
Problem is im completely brain dead so i do find these drill too complicated for me to remember

Obviously the drill is too long to be a directly-applicable technique. But the principles, stickiness, etc. seem really useful. If you practiced that drill fast, it would probably find its way into free sparring practice in one form or another.

Heaven, earth, man one. When heaven and earth becomes one (same)? . İn horizon. So when the horizon and Man become one? On the ground. So when the Man is on ground, heaven, earth and Man this 3 becomes parallel and 1. So what if katas are about ground fighting and just stand up version of it?
